AURSA seeks adequate infrastructure for research scholars

SILCHAR, July 26: Assam University Research Scholars Association (AURSA) welcomed the new guideline of UGC, which says that fellowship holders have to attend the university at least three days in a week. The Association at the same time submitted a memorandum addressed to the Vice Chancellor in support of its charter of demands in the interest of research scholars of Assam University Silchar.

Ratnadeep Deb, president, Assam University Research Scholars’ Association, expressing his happiness at the new guideline of the UGC that according to him “would enormously benefit the scholars” said that in order to implement the guideline in the Varsity there was a need of building a minimum infrastructure for the interest of the research scholars.

He demanded a scholars’ common room having library and Internet facilities in every department so that they could do research works easily. “Scholars face difficulties to be in the department as they do not have any common room. They have either to roam or to sit in any of the teachers’ room. A common room with library and Internet facilities will attract the scholars to come to the department and will also be helpful for them to conduct their research works smoothly.”

Deb said that scholars who come from outside should get hostel accommodation in the University. “If the outside scholars get accommodation in the hostel, they can regularly be present in their respective departments and can conduct a quality research work.”

The Association also demanded a separate university bus for the MPhil and PhD scholars from Silchar. “Like students and other staff, scholars also should get bus facility from Silchar to University, a 22 km stretch. It is difficult for every scholar to go to the university everyday by public transports.”

The memorandum signed by more than 100 research scholars requested the Vice Chancellor to address their demands on priority.
